Vehicle water leak detection

We find where water enters a car's cabin using ultrasound, smoke testing and thermography — indoors, with no needless stripping of the interior.
  • Ultrasonic testing and smoke tests
  • Carried out indoors, not outside
  • No stripping of the interior
  • Takes 1 to 3 hours

Wet patches under the mats, windows that steam up constantly, mould on the upholstery? Water can enter at one point and collect somewhere entirely different, hidden beneath carpet and insulation. That is precisely why most garages decline these jobs.

We work indoors only

This cannot be done on a driveway or in a car park. Wind, dust and changing air temperature disrupt both ultrasound and smoke, and traffic noise masks the signal. The survey is carried out entirely at our enclosed premises, at stable temperature and humidity.

Where water usually gets in

  • Blocked sunroof drains — the commonest cause of a wet headlining and water in the footwell.
  • Failed bonding on the windscreen or rear screen, often after replacement.
  • Blocked scuttle drains, where water overflows into the cabin filter.
  • Perished door and tailgate seals.
  • A blocked air-conditioning condensate drain.

The methods

  • Ultrasound — a transmitter inside the car floods the cabin with high-frequency sound; a scanning receiver outside detects even a hairline gap in a seal or bond.
  • Smoke testing — dense, harmless smoke under slight pressure reveals the exact path water is taking.
  • FLIR and Tramex — we map the wetted area beneath the carpet and measure how deep the moisture has gone into the insulation.

Please bring the car washed and dry on the outside — surface water interferes with the readings. This service is available in Sofia only.
